‎Residents of Nung Udoe Ediene Community in Uyo Local Government Area erupted in jubilation on Tuesday as the Council Chairman, Dr Uwemedimo Udo, handed over a brand-new 500KVA power substation, with community members, traditional leaders, women and youths describing the project as a major milestone that will improve electricity supply, stimulate economic activities, enhance security and bring meaningful development closer to the people.

‎Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Uwemedimo Udo said government exists to improve the lives of the people through the provision of basic infrastructure and essential services. He noted that his administration remains committed to ensuring that every part of Uyo Local Government enjoys the dividends of good governance under the Service Alone agenda.

‎The Chairman said the new power substation would not only address the electricity challenges faced by the community but also create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and improve the quality of life of residents, expressing confidence that the people of Nung Udoe Ediene would safeguard the facility against vandalism, stressing that government projects belong to the people and should be protected by all. 

‎Dr Udo further announced that within one month, electricity would also be restored to Nung Asang Ikono Community in Uyo Local Government Area.

‎Earlier, the Supervisor for Works, Obong Idara Akpan, gave an overview of the project, explaining that access to electricity remains one of the priority areas of the Service Alone administration because of its direct impact on economic growth, security and improved living conditions. He noted that the 500KVA power substation was carefully executed to strengthen power supply to the community.

‎In their separate remarks, the Ward Personal Assistant to the Governor, Elder Emmanuel Sampson, the Woman Leader, Obonganwan Ekaette Asuquo, and the Youth Leader, Mr Oscar Tom, appreciated the Chairman for the numerous developmental projects executed across Ediene Oku and pledged that the community would protect the power facility from vandalism.

‎Also speaking, the Village Head of Nung Udoe Ediene, Eteidung Augustine Udo, and a community stakeholder, Elder Ita Jeremiah, commended the Chairman for bringing electricity to the community, noting that the project would help reduce crime in the area. They appealed to the Chairman to convey the deplorable condition of the internal roads in Nung Udoe Ediene to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, expressing optimism that the roads would receive government attention.

‎The Paramount Ruler of Uyo, HRM Edidem Sylvanus Okon, JP, urged the community to safeguard the facility, reminding them that government projects belong to the people.

‎Present at the event were the wife of the Chairman, Mrs Akaninyene Uwemedimo; the Vice Chairman of Council, Hon. Christiana Bassey; the Council Secretary, Mr Ubong Udofia; Councillors led by the Leader of Council, Hon. Ekemini Bassey; Supervisors; Management Staff of the Council led by the Head of Local Government Service, Elder Etiuwem Udo; Commissioner in the Federal Character Commission, Obonganwan Dora Ebong; and other dignitaries.

‎The handover of the 500KVA power substation at Nung Udoe Ediene forms part of the ongoing community project handover as the Uyo Local Government Council continues to deliver people-oriented projects across communities in the area.
